Dance in Yogyakarta

The dance in Yogyakarta is based on graceful and measured rhythamatic steps .It is a slow dignified dance which teaches one how to be a master of one's own emotions .

Usually it is danced in counts of 8 .This style of dance has been preserved for centuries in the royal courts .

In India, quite a few dances are similar to this type of dancing.

It is from Port Pradeep in Orissa that the Indian ships used to sail to Bali ,Indonesia and Sumatra for trade and cultural relations..

Until today , there is a festival called Bali Yatra in Orissa . on the banks of a river .
